Five at Five Returns Tomorrow!

July 31, 2008

Some phone work is being done today on the campus of John Brown University, so if you called in and couldn’t get through, that’s probably what happened.  Because of that, the Five at Five was put on hold today, but no fear, we’ll be back tommorow to help you round out your work week!

Back 2 School at Marketplace

July 30, 2008

Thanks to everyone who stopped by Marketplace in Rogers this afternoon!  It was great to get to meet some of you!  We handed out five copies of the brand new CD “Revelation” from Third Day.

Some thunderstorms are beginning to roll through Siloam Springs, and most of the region is supposed to see some rain (and lower temps!) tonight!

Congrats to Leslie, who won today’s Five at Five!

Tomorrow is the Last Day for KLRC Cares: Back 2 School!

July 29, 2008

Tomorrow I’m going to be at Marketplace Grill in Rogers from 11:30 to 1:00 to hand out free drinks in return for donations to KLRC Cares: Back 2 School.  Tomorrow is the last day, so if you haven’t gotten your school supplies for it yet, there’s still a little time!  You’ll be able to drop off at any Marketplace location until closing time tomorrow.

Congrats to AJ for winning the 5 at 5 today!

Rough Traffic Day

July 23, 2008

Every once in a while in NWA we get those bad afternoons where I-540 turns into one giant traffic jam – and this was definitely one of those afternoons.  An isolated thunderstorm cell popped up right over Springdale, and instead of moving off, just kind of hovored over I-540 for a good chunk of the afternoon.  But thanks to all of our great listeners who called in with updates, hopefully everyone was able to navigate their way home alright!

Thanks for the calls, and drive safe!

Another way to…not talk to each other.

July 22, 2008

Today on the show I talked a little bit about a new service that directs your call direclty to somone’s voicemail.  It basically lets you call somebody without actually having to talk to them. The service is called Slydial, and it puts callers directly into their target’s voice mail so you can skip the whole “actual conversation” thing. Now I guess the use for this would be that if you’re busy and need to just leave a quick reminder or hello or something, you can do that.

Just a warning though, apparently when some people receive these messages, their phones ring very briefly, which means…they might call you back…and then you’d actually have to talk them!

Above the Golden State

July 21, 2008

Thanks to Michael Watson, lead singer from the new band Above the Golden State for joining us on the Drive-Home this afternoon.  We debuted the band’s single, “Sound of Your Name”.  Michael also explained the band’s musical style, the giant bear on the cover art for their album, and what it was like to listen to their song on the radio for the first time.

For more on these guys and to listen to “Sound of Your Name,” visit their myspace page!

Good News Thursday

July 17, 2008

Have you been over to the Morning Show Blog yet to read Jen’s poem?  If not, you should.  This morning Mark and Jen decided to take a break from the regular news and let listener’s re-write it!

Well, I decided I better try to find some positive headlines too…and I’ll admit, it was harder than I thought.  However, there were a couple of good things that happened today.  First, the salmonella poising scare is over, at least according to the FDA.  AND, the price of crude oil dropped significantly for the third day in a row.  Will this mean cheaper gas prices?  Hopefully!

Congrats to Jenna, who won today’s Five at Five!

Happy Tuesday!

July 15, 2008

We continue to have some awesome afternoon weather this week!  And it looks like it’s going to keep coming!

Being positive and optimistic is a good thing, right?  Well apparently it’s not only good for our minds, but good for our bodies as well!  A new study showed that people who thought they were at lower risk for heart attacks, actually were!  The optimistic ones had less heart problems over a fifteen year period than did the not-so-optimistic people.

So…stay happy!

Couch Surfing

July 14, 2008

It’s been all over the news recently that because of higher prices, people are cutting back on their traveling plans, or not traveling at all.  There’s been some talk about “Staycations” recently, where you basically spend your vacation in your own geographic area and find fun things to do, therefore cutting out the travel costs.

A new idea though, is “Couch Surfing”.  Using a website www.couchsurfing.com, you basically find someone registered with the site who will let you crash on their couch for the duration of your stay!  They say that not only do you get free lodging, but it’s also a good way to make new friends, or have a local who can help build cultural awareness and show you around.  Check it out.

Finally Fridays

July 11, 2008

Congratulations to both of our winners this afternoon, as Brooks from Bethel Heights won a pass to Fun City in Springdale, and Brenda from Gravette for winning the Family Fun Five at Five.

The giveaways continue into the weekend, as we have “KLRC Winning Weekends”.  If you’re not a member of the loyal listener club, you should check it out – cause then you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win three CD’s!

See you Monday!
