Want $10 million for your best idea?

September 24, 2008

No, I’m not offering the reward.  But Google is!

Google is celebrating its tenth birthday, and it’s launching an initiative to solicit and bankroll ideas that it believes could have a beneficial impact on people’s lives. And they’re not just offering a couple hundred dollars. They’re offering ten million dollars to make your idea a reality. So, they’re looking for ideas that could address issues like providing food and shelter, improving health, granting more access to education, or pretty much anything else people could come up with. If you’ve got an idea, you can go to their website, www.project10tothe100.com.

Another Great Concert!

September 16, 2008

Thanks to everyone who came out to Skia yesterday for the Rush of Fools concert!

It was a fun Drive-Home, getting to hang out with a bunch of listeners out at Skia!  There were a TON of people there, and I think NWA left a great impression on Rush of Fools!  The guys sounded great, and it was a lot of fun.  If you’d like to see some pictures from the event, there’s a few posted on our website, klrc.com.

What’s your most important item?

August 25, 2008

I ran across a survey today that asked the question, “If you had to leave your house for 24 hours, and could only take one item with you, what would you take?”  The most obvious answers might be things like your keys or billfold.  Maybe even a laptop?

The most common response, however, was “cell-phone” with 38% of people giving that answer.  Billfold came in second at 30%.

Just another interesting survey showing how much we Americans love our phones! :)

Olympic Sized Diets

August 20, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty into the olympics.  If you’ve been watching them at all, you know that there are two big names out there right now – swimmer Michael Phelps, and Jamaican swimmer Usain Bolt.  Phelps won eight olympic gold medals (the most ever), and Usain Bolt set records in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints.

But I think what’s even more amazing is what they eat.

Phelps eats an amazing 12,000 calories EVERY DAY!  His breakfast for example, consists of three egg sandwiches, a bowl of grits, a five egg omellete, three pancakes (with chocolate chips), three slices of french toast, and two cups of coffee.

That’s about four times the amount of calories recommended for someone his height and weight.  I have a very high metabolism, so I can kind of relate…but he still eats almost three times as much as me.

Bolt, on the other hand, gets up at eleven, skips breakfast, and eats chicken nuggets for lunch and dinner.

First Day of School!

August 18, 2008

For a lot of people in NWA, today is the first day of school!  It always takes a few days to get back in the swing of things for parents and kids alike, but hopefully things got off to a good start today.  College students will begin arriving here at JBU soon and at other universities in the area, and that’s always exciting too!

Congrats to Demi, the winner of today’s 5 at 5!

The Sun Shines!

August 12, 2008

After a weekend/Monday filled with rain and clouds, the sun has finally come out this afternoon!  The real good news is that you can expect more of the same tomorrow.  It’ll be pretty cool (considering its August) in the upper 70’s, and blue skies!

Congrats to Brittany from Bella Vista, who won today’s Five at Five!

Sandwich Emergency

August 5, 2008

Something I talked about on the show today…

For one guy in Jacksonville, Florida, his Subway sandwich was an emergency.  After receiving a Spicy Italian sub that lacked mayonnaise and mustard, Reginald Peterson called 911 to complain about the sandwich.  Peterson was arrested for making false calls to 911, and later said that he didn’t know that calling 911 would land him in jail.  So the moral of this story?

If you’re unhappy with your meal at a restaurant, maybe just talk to the manager instead of the police!

It’s hot!!

August 4, 2008

Hope you stayed cool today, as it was the hottest day in Northwest Arkansas so far this year!  From NWAhomepage.com, here’s some tips on how to stay cool:

1. Dress for the heat. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Light colors will reflect away some of the sun’s energy. It is also a good idea to wear hats or to use an umbrella.

2. Drink water. Carry water or juice with you and drink continuously even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body.

3. Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid foods that are high in protein, which increase metabolic heat.

4. Avoid using salt tablets unless directed to do so by a physician.

5. Slow down. Avoid strenuous activity. If you must do strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day, which is usually in the morning between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

6. Stay indoors when possible.
